The Coolest Gifts for Data Scientists

If you're looking for the coolest gift ideas for Data Scientists, then you're sure to find something awesome amongst these.

The Galton Board is a great Data Science gift - it's the biggest seller in this list!

The Tap Strap is also a great idea for a Data Science gift. It's really cool...

Tap Strap Bluetooth Enabled Wearable Keyboard & Mouse, Cross Platform Controller for Smartphone, Tablet, PC, Laptop & SmartTV

Tap is a virtual input device that uses chords to register text so you can type without a keyboard. The Tap Strap has accelerometers built into each finger-ring, which collect motion and acceleration information from your fingers. That information is analyzed by a small computer chip, which is built into the thumb ring. The output character is then transmitted via Bluetooth to the paired device.

Galton Board

The Galton Board is a probability machine.

As you rotate the Galton Board on its axis, you set into motion a flow of steel beads that bounce with equal probability to the left or right through several rows of pegs. As the beads accumulate in the bins, they approximate the bell curve, as shown by the yellow line on the front of the Galton board. This hands-on Galton Board allows you to visualize the order embedded in the chaos of randomness.

TicWatch Pro Smartwatch

We love the look of this Smartwatch.

But it doesn't just look cool, it has all the features you want to have in a Smartwatch: sleep tracking, fitness tracking, bluetooth, water resistant, voice commands, long battery life, built-in GPS, notifications and replies...

And don't forget to get a wobble wobble board to go with it.

Magnetic Fidget Sphere

Isn't this the coolest fidget toy?

With 100+ possible combinations, it's a great way to give your brain a little break when you get stuck.

We think anybody who loves Rubik's cubes will love it.

More Christmas Gifts For Geeks

Finding the best Christmas gifts for geeks and nerds can be tricky at times (I know - I'm one and I'm notoriously difficult to buy gifts for), so any little help you can get is invaluable.

This next selection should help with that - especially the ergonomic keyboard.

I've had my eye on this one for a while and I'm putting it on my Christmas list - it's my pick of the top gifts for geeks who have everything!

Single Serve Coffee Maker Machine

Data might be the oil of the 21st century, but data scientists run on coffee.

This Coffee Maker is compatible pods or you can use ground coffee with their universal reusable filter.

With its small size, it's a great addition to any Data Scientist's cave office and it's also travel mug friendly!

Kinesis Advantage2 Ergonomic Keyboard (KB600)

Doesn't this ergonomic keyboard look cool?

But we haven't put it here just cos it looks awesome. It has an All-New Smart Set Programming Engine That Allows Users To Customise The Keyboard for increased productivity.

So you could get your data scientist to code faster! Wouldn't that be great?

A cheaper alternative to this keyboard is this other one, also by the same brand.

Light Therapy Light

Do your Data Scientist friends feel a bit meh and are lacking in energy during the winter months?

You could try the coffee machine we mentioned above, or you could try giving them one of these Therapy Lights, proven to ease winter blues, jet lag and low energy during the dark days of the fall and winter seasons.

If you want a cheaper alternative, try this one.

A Rocketbook Notebook

Data Scientists also need to write things on paper, but using a Rocketbook is a lot better.

Rocketbook notebooks are reusable, they work with Frixion pens and you can wipe them clean with a microfibre cloth.

But the best thing is that you can upload your notes to the cloud, so you keep your notes and it's good for the environment.

A Shiatsu Neck Massager

After long days hunched over computer screens crunching numbers, even the best data scientists can develop painful neck tension.

This massager comes with multiple massage settings so your
favorite data scientist can get a customized, spa-quality massage right from their office chair or couch.

Books for Statisticians and Data Scientists

There are lots of books for statisticians out there - a quick search on Amazon will bring up 70,000 results! Ah yes, but how many of these are classic books for statisticians? Not many, but there are some to be found - and most experienced (and inexperienced) statisticians will just love them.

Most people will shrug their shoulders, but trust me - these really are great gifts for data analysts!

This first two include works by stats legends Edward Tufte and Karl Pearson.

We are not worthy!

The Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Edward Tufte

It's a classic book on statistical graphics, charts and tables and a must have for any statistician or data scientist.

Karl Pearson : The Scientific Life in a Statistical Age by Theodore M Porter

In this original and engaging book, a leading historian of modern science investigates the interior experience of one man's scientific life while placing it in a rich tapestry of social, political, and intellectual movements.

These two include works by Gods of the stats world John Tukey and RA Fisher.

Several of the methods are the original creations of the author, and all can be carried out either with pencil or aided by hand-held calculator.

Statistical Methods Experimental Design and Scientific Inference by R. A Fisher
