Best Python Courses For Beginners - Introduction

Programming is one of the most important aspects of being a Data Scientist - when you learn Python for Data Science, you're sort of learning to use the glue that binds together the statistics, artificial intelligence, the visualisation, and so on.

It's not easy, though, especially if you're just making the transition to it.

On the other hand, it is easier to learn Python from scratch than many others (C++, Java and many more), and explains why it has become the most used programming language for Data Science. There are loads of short cuts, plug-ins, packages and all sorts of things that can really help you make the best of your time.

Probably the biggest advantage that Python has over other languages is that it is quick to get started, simple to learn new routines and increases productivity and speed. Don't believe me? Well, Yahoo, Google, Disney, ABN Amro, NASA, Nokia, IBM and the CIA all use Python!

Oh, yes, and Chi-Squared Innovations too...

How to Learn Python From Scratch

Over the years, as I've taught myself to program, stumbling about in the dark, struggling to solve the simplest of things, I wish I'd had help. I know I would have been a better programmer and I wouldn't have wasted so much time. Oh my, the amount of time I've wasted over the years. It's enough to make a grown man cry.

If you're not sure how to learn Python from scratch or whether you're looking to improve your chopping and hacking skills, Udemy has some of the best Python courses for beginners and are taught by people who really do know what they're doing. I'm highlighting 6 of them here - the best Python tutorials for beginners.

These instructors will help you with your first steps - writing your first program, installing packages, plotting some simple graphs and computing statistics.

Udemy's courses are frequently deeply discounted. They are usually offered for up to £/$/Euro 200 but are on sale pretty much every week for a few days at just 10-15 £/$/Euro - so grab them while you can!

Udemy have regular sales, so just click on through. If there isn't a sale on, just return here, register for our newsletter and we'll let you know whenever the sales are on.

A quick reminder - once you've enrolled for a particular course, you get lifetime access to it, even when the course is updated.

For those of you that aren't Python beginners, we also highlight the best advanced Python courses, the best Pandas courses and the best NumPy courses too.

And if Data Science is your thing I'll show you the best Python courses for Data Science as well.

Learn Python Programming Masterclass

4.6 of 5 stars

This Python For Beginners Course Teaches You The Python Language Fast. Includes Python Online Training With Python 3

This course is aimed at complete beginners who have never programmed before, as well as existing programmers who want to increase their career options by learning Python.

By the end of the course you will be ready to apply for Python programming positions as well as move on to specific areas of Python, including Machine Learning and Data Science...

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Whether you want to:

  • build the skills you need to get your first Python programming job
  • move to a more senior software developer position
  • get started with Machine Learning, Data Science, Django or other hot areas that Python specialises in
  • or just learn Python to be able to create your own Python apps quickly

…then you need a solid foundation in Python programming. And this course is designed to give you those core skills, fast.

This course is aimed at complete beginners who have never programmed before, as well as existing programmers who want to increase their career options by learning Python.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to apply in confidence for Python programming jobs. And yes, this applies even if you have never programmed before. With the right skills which you will learn in this course, you can become employable and valuable in the eyes of future employers.

Here’s what a few students have told us about the course after going through it.

“I had very limited programming experience before I started this course, so I have really learned a lot from the first few sections. It has taken me from essentially zero programming skill to a level where I'm comfortable using Python to analyze data for my lab reports, and I'm not even halfway done the course yet. There are other courses out there which focus on data analysis, but those courses are usually targeted at people who already know how to program which is why I chose this course instead. “ – Christian DiMaria

“I have been puttering through your Python course . In that time, though, and without finishing it yet I've been able to automate quite a bit at my work. I work in a school system and unifying data from our various student information systems can be incredibly frustrating, time consuming, and at times challenging. Using your course, I've learned enough to write applications that turn massive text files into dictionaries that get "stitched" together like a database and output to properly formatted CSV files and then uploaded via SFTP to various systems for secure processing. Our teachers, students, and the tech department have greatly benefitted from this automation. I just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for helping me learn this skill.” – Keith Medlin

“This course was great. Within 3 weeks I was able to write my own database related applications.” – Theo Coenen

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Python Mega Course is the most practical course you will find on the web today. In this course, rather than practicing rote memorization, students are actively problem-solving towards tangible goals. The purpose of this course is to get you from zero and help you become a Python programmer. We will achieve that by building actual desktop programs, developing interactive web applications, automating tasks, and even creating mobile apps entirely in Python 3.

You will learn the entire process of program development in Python, from writing a program to producing the final .exe or .app executable which you can share with friends and colleagues. There will be 10 real-world applications that we will build together.

These are:

  • English Thesaurus - a program where users can get definitions of words.
  • Volcano Web Map - an interactive web map of volcano locations throughout the USA.
  • Personal Website with Python - a live website built entirely in Python.
  • Bookshop Database App - a desktop GUI app with an SQL database backend.
  • Feel Good Mobile App - an Android & iOS app.
  • Webcam Motion Detector - starts the webcam and detects moving objects.
  • Real Estate Web Scraper - a program that extracts data from webpages.
  • Interactive Data Dashboard - a web-based, fully interactive graph.
  • Database Web App - a web app that collects data & sends emails.
  • Geocoder Web App - a web app that converts addresses to coordinates.

Before we start building the 10 apps, you will first learn the fundamentals of Python programming. If you know Python basics already, you can jump right in with the first app. By building the 10 apps, you will master Python and gain the skills to create Python programs independently. You can also use any of the 10 apps for your portfolio.

You will code the apps, guided step-by-step by straightforward video explanations, and continuous support from the course instructor. If you get stuck, you can ask questions at any time in the Q&A, and the instructor or the teaching assistant will jump in and help you with your questions.
